Eric Mellencamp was born into rock n roll
Eric’s uncle is John Mellencamp. His father, Ted was John’s tour manager from 1977 to 1983. Ted Mellencamp later worked in record promotions at Mercury Polygram which immersed Eric Mellencamp into the music industry from an early age.
Eric Mellencamp initially began playing music with the goal of becoming an artist; but, two days after graduating high school decided to move to New York City to pursue a career in modeling. Eric left 18 months later to attend college.
Eric Mellencamp Moves To Nashville
In 1997, Eric moved to Nashville, TN to begin working for his father in promotions at Core Entertainment. Five years later, in 2002 Eric started working as director of secondary promotions at Curb Records. Eric Mellencamp quickly moved up to the position of director of promotion. During his 11 years at Curb he worked closely with artists such as Tim McGraw, Leann Rimes, Lee Brice, Hank Jr, Wynonna Judd, Rodney Atkins, Clay Walker, Steve Holy, JoDee Messina, Trick Pony, Heidi Newfield, Bomshel and many more.
Some of Eric’s accomplishments include many #1 songs, Billboards “Song of The Year”, Billboards “Most Played Song of The Year” and ACM’s “Song of The Year”. He promoted Tim McGraw’s song “Live Like You Were Dying” which spent a record setting 10 weeks at #1 and he also holds the record for the longest charted song in country music history with Lee Brice’s song “Love Like Crazy” which spent 57 weeks on the chart. He also assisted Tim McGraw in becoming the most played artist across all music genres and artists of the decade with 7.9 million BDS detected radio spins from 2000 to 2009.
Rocket Tone Records Launched
In 2013 after many years of working at Curb Records, Eric Mellencamp made the decision to part ways and open his own record label: Rocket Tone Records. At Rocket Tone Records, Eric consults, manages and develops artists while also producing and promoting songs on multiple radio formats.
Eric Mellencamp’s mission since launching Rocket Tone Records has been to consult artists and give them direction with unbiased information in regards to moving their careers forward. No matter what stage your career is in as an artist his vocation is to consult and advise you to determine where your attention should be focused in order for you to succeed in the music industry.
